So I decided to purchase a home fetal heart Doppler. I knew full and well that it would be a while before it would work and I shouldn’t expect to hear anything right at 8 weeks (which is when the company implies that you should be able to hear something).
I asked the u/s tech at our first OB appointment when she suspected someone of my stature might be able to pick up the heartbeat with one of these home dopplers. Her response was at least 14-15 weeks. This just seemed a bit longer than I was willing to wait.
I tried it at 9 weeks when it arrived. Nothing. This weekend I decided to play with it. After about 15 minutes of moving around on my tummy….i heard it! It was the faintest of faint wooshes but I heard one of the babies heart beats. It was strong enough for the Doppler to pick it up and give me a reading for about 5 seconds before I lost it. The next day I tried it again closer to the bottom of my uterus….after a few minute I picked up what I think was baby A. HB right in the 170’s. Such a glorious sound. So now my goal is to not use it again until after my NT scan on Friday.
Such an anxiety reliever though to be able to know my babies hearts are still beating!
I started hearing the heartbeat regularly at about 11 weeks. So, hopefully soon you'll be able to hear it every time!
ReplyDeleteI have the same doppler. I didn't get it until I was 14 weeks pregnant last time but I heard the HB clear as day without even having to look for it. I tried this time at 8 and 9 weeks and didn't pick anything up. I have decided to hold off on using it too much. I used it everyday last time until I could feel the baby move and then I relaxed. This time I want to try to use it as a way to actually monitor and chart the HB. The major thing I would have done differently last time would be to continue listening after I felt movement and making a chart. I think I might have picked up a deceleration in time to save my baby. Those little dopplers are a miracle and this time I plan on using it to ensure my baby's safe arrival! Congrats on hearing a HB!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you have it, and could find the wondeful woosh-woosh!
ReplyDeleteI'm still torn about it!! And now after reading Shana's comment, I'm wondering if I shouldn't get one after all.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your advice by the way...I know I'll start feeling the little guy soon enough, but I'm just not sure...
It's really a shame that we all can't just relax and know that everything is going to be fine. What we all really need is a crystal ball showing us our healthy babies at the end of this.
Happy HB listening!!! XO
Oh that's awesome! I'm so happy you can hear the heartbeats - it will be so nice to hear your little guys.
ReplyDeleteI also would be first in line to purchase one of these when we get pregnant. I am glad you were able to find the HB and can rest easy! Some things in life are worth every penny and I bet this item is one that tops the list!
ReplyDeleteI soo need to get one of these! how fun!
ReplyDeletep.s.
I love your fondant cake! it looks perfect!
I am so gonna get me one of those WHEN I get pregnant!
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome! I can believe it would be such a relief to be able to hear the heartbeats! Many congrats on twins! I haven't been by in a while, so I missed this announcement.
ReplyDeleteSo happy you got to hear your babies' heartbeats!! How amazing is that?!? I wanted to get one but D thinks it's only going to make me obsessed!!(he is right!!)
ReplyDeleteSomeone just told me about that same doppler last night...I have got to have it! I'm so in need of that reassurance after having a m/c. Hopefully with every day, you'll be able to hear it better and longer...and with both babies! I'm sure that will confuse the heck out of the doppler, but how exciting!!
