About Me

My photo
Nashville, TN, United States
I am a mom to amazing twin girls, a wife, and I work full time. I battled infertility for 2 years and over the course of treatments, a twin pregnancy, and raising twins I managed to gain about 80 lbs. I’ve lost about 50 lbs so far and would like to lose another 50 in my quest to become a hot mama.

So cute, so impracticable, but I bought it anyways.

Yes...I bought baby sunglasses.  I saw them on mamabargains and had to have them.  I just pictured our two little babies sitting out on our boat with their little hats and life vests on and it made me warm and fuzzy.

Yesterday they arrived. If you tell me they aren't adorable you have no soul.

And now that I can't see anything between my belly and my knees, a view from up above (a comparison):

Here for my anatomy scan...Just kidding!

So today's OB appointment was a total waste.  The doctor we saw today was cool as shit.  Unfortunately he doesn't do deliveries since he is the medical director.  I am figuring out how this practice works little by little...and it sucks.  It's really like 4 practices under one roof...there's the regular OB, MFM (which is the group I see), regular u/s, and MFM u/s (which is what I see).  And somehow, no one seems to communicate with one another.

So at my last OB appointment with one of the nurse practitioners in the MFM practice, she wrote me an order to come back from my anatomy scan today (at 16 weeks, 6 days).  I happily obliged because I never miss an opportunity to see my babies.

So we show up after our doctor appointment and sit in a waiting room.  And we sit.  And we sit.  50 minutes after our appointment time we are finally called back. I excitedly roll my maternity pants down and hop on the table.  The u/s covers me in goo and goes "So why are we even seeing you today."  Umm excuse me...shouldn't you know that?  So I reply "For my anatomy scan." Her response "Well I don't know who told you that because it's too early.  We can't do those till at least 20 weeks." So wait a minute...you mean to tell me I have been sitting here wasting my entire morning when I could be at work for a scan that you can't do.  Ok.  Gotcha.

So she says, well I guess we can get some measurements.  Yay.  Finally some good news.  So she turns the screen towards her.  I cock my body in a desperate attempt to see the screen but to no avail.  I ask her if I can look at the screen to and she tells me that she'll show me at the end. Fine...bitch.  So I lay there.  And then she starts in on "So why are you even an MFM patient anyways." (Her words).  Well dumb bitch with a high school education...it's because I am pregnant with twins and I had started off this lovely journey with a subchorionic hematoma that led to a threatened miscarriage.  I didn't quite say that, rather I replied with "Well I think because I am carrying twins."  Her response "Well twins doesn't make you high risk." My response "Well obviously my doctors feel this is a high risk pregnancy for me." Silent thought "Now shut the fuck up and do the scan."

So she does the scan.  Doesn't say a word about how either of the babies is measuring.  Doesn't tell me what she's looking at.  Nothing.  At the end she says "Ok all done." I looked at her blankly and said "Can I at least have some pictures."

She hands me three u/s pictures that barely look like babies.  Really!!!!  I know you budgeted 75 minutes for that u/s so there was really no reason why she couldn't take an extra 5 minutes and take at least 2 decent pictures of my babies to tie me over to the next u/s.

So annoyed right now!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unfortunately, the way my insurance is, I can't switch practices without paying through my nose.  Oh how I love working for a teaching medical university!

So here are some pics of my blobs courtesy of a white trash bitch with no bedside manner.

Crib bedding has been ordered!

Woo hooo.  We finally made a decision on a nice gender neutral baby bedding set!  We picked the Lambs & Ivy Park Avenue Collection.

God bless my mom and dad, they bought us two sets, two mobiles, and the decorative letters that go on the wall!  I feel like this nursery is finally becoming a reality.

Here are some pics of the set:

In other baby related news, my "Hooter Hider" came yesterday.  Orginally I wasn't going to buy a nursing cover...I was just going to use a receiving blanket, etc.  But they when I thought about feeding both babies at the same time, it occured to me...I won't have any free hands.  That could be a problem if the blanket fell off.  So when Woot.com had an offer on the Hooter Hider I figured what the hell.  It's pretty cute I must say.

Because I am a nut, I also ordered the cutest baby sunglasses from Babysteals.com.  Can't wait to get them!  I doubt my babies will wear them, but the thought of brining them out on the boat with their little glasses makes me smile.

16 weeks

Time for the 16 week survey!  I can't believe I am already 16 weeks.  This pregnancy is going so fast and so slow all at the same time.

How far along: 16 weeks, 1 days

Total Weight Gain: 12.5 lbs (Eeeek....I am not taking kindly to this whole gaining weight thing.) Although according to twin pregnacny guidelines I haven't gained quite enough yet...1 pound per week for the first 25 weeks and 2 pound thereafter for a total of 40-50lbs.  I can't imagine how big I am going to be at the end!

Symptoms: The right side of my rib cage feels like it has been hit by a bat.  It is super sore when I am sitting.  I think something is just shifting up in there and causing this pain.  I won't complain though....it's a sign that my babies are growing and are healthy!

Stretch Marks: Yes: (  One new one on the bottom of my belly. I will wear my battle scars proudly.

Sleep: Wonderful!  I am pretty good at this one!

Best Moment Last Week: Feeling the first kick! It was hands down the most amazing experience.  It's made this pregnancy seem so much more real!

Movement: Guess I spoiled this one.  Yes, I felt the first movement 2 days ago.  It was awesome!  I have felt a least one kick or flip everyday since.  I am really looking forward to feeling them consistently.

Food Cravings: Watermelon.  Mmmmmmm.  Guess there are worse things to crave.

What I Miss: Nothing this week.

What am I looking forward to:  Our anatomy scan this Wednesday!!!

Milestones: Fetal movement is the biggie this week.  I am loving every second of this pregnancy.

How is Daddy? Amazing.  Everyday I grow more in love with him.  The thought of bringing these two beautiful babies into the world together gives me goosebumps!

16 week pics.  I definitely feel like I've grown a bit!

First fetal movement 15w6d

Short blog...but big news.  Today I felt the first real kick. I had been feeling "bubbles" for a few days now...maybe even a few weeks.  But today, one of the babies definitely rolled over or kicked.  It was a noticeable tapping feeling.  It was so cool!  I absolutely can't wait until it gets more consistent!!!!

In other news...we finally did our registry.  We went with BRU and Target...Although the sheer lack of items on our target registry is making me consider closing it and going with Amazon.  We shall see!

Everything still feels so surreal!

Nursery Progress

It's not much but here are some pics of the nursery:

15 weeks

How far along: 15 weeks, 0 days

Total Weight Gain: 9.0 lbs (although we ate at Cheesecake Factory last night...so I was not apt to step on the scale this morning)

Symptoms: I feel amazingly fantastic.  I LOVE being pregnant and my growing belly.  The only new issues going on is some hip pain that gets worse when I am standing.  Nothing to complain about though!

Stretch Marks: No new ones...I have one old one that looks like it might be elongating.  Not like I planned on wearing a bikini any time soon anyways!

Sleep: I am sleeping even better now that I don't have to get up a million times to go to the bathroom.  Looks like I am getting a little bit of a reprieve.

Best Moment Last Week: Getting the first crib set up in the nursery!

Movement: I think I am getting closer.  I have felt a few bubbles that have made me go "hmmm" but nothing definite yet.  I can't wait though!

Food Cravings: None. But lots of food in general.  I have discovered a new level of hungry that I have never felt before...the kind that makes you want to vomit.  And this happens about every hour!

What I Miss: Nothing this week.

What am I looking forward to:  Going to Atlanta this weekend to do some baby shopping at Ikea and making our registry this weekend!

Milestones: Actually having something in our nursery that makes it look like a nursery!

How is Daddy? Getting excited.  He is touching my belly a whole lot more now and I love it.  There is nothing more sweet than showing his love towards his two little ones!

Some 15 weeks pics:

End of an Era

So last night marked the end of an era.  A wild, rebellious, fun era in my life.  Yes, last night I had to say goodbye to my beloved nipple rings.

Yes, I know....I don't look like "that kind of girl." But alas I am...or was.  I LOVE tattoos and body piercings.  I love the rush of adrenaline from getting a new piercing or feeling of fresh ink.  Sadistic?  Maybe.  Cathartic.  Absolutely.

Not let's back track...I got these fun adornments while I was still in college.  This was not a quarter-life crisis decision.  But for the past two weeks I've noticed that both piercings have become increasingly nasty...almost as if they were getting infected.  I chalked it up to by giagantor tits growing and the tissue stretching.  Low and behold, I realized last night that I am already "leaking."  In a panic (because I didn't think this should be happening so early) I went to my hand dandy friend google.  Apparently this is totally normal...and the buildup on the piercings is actually dried breast milk and protein.

My hubby helped me remove them in kind of a ceremonial "Your quickly becoming a mom" procession.  So they are out...for better or worse.  At least now they will have some time to heal up before I have two milk monsters gnawing on my tits.

The view is scary from up here!

I looked down today and realized I can't see my zipper anymore (coincidently I can't see my lady bits and pieces either...which raises a grooming concern).

Can't wait till I can't reach my keyboard anymore!  I LOVE my growing belly!  Now if it would just round out so I look legitimately pregnant and not just like I've been hitting the doughnuts!

Baby shower cake...final product

As many of you know, I made my first 2-tiered fondant cake for a friends baby shower 2 weeks ago.  As promised, here is the finished product.

13 weeks

I haven't been very good at chronicling this pregnancy...so no better time than the present right?  I borrowed this from Pricilla at It only takes one time...not!.  I thought it was a great summary for the week to week updates.

How far along: 13 weeks, 4 days

Total Weight Gain: 7.5 lbs

Symptoms: I feel amazing. Everyone keeps saying "oh just wait...you'll feel it soon" but I think that they are just a bunch of Debbie downers!  My MS has subsided, the breast tenderness has almost subsided, and the headaches seem to be fewer and fewer.

Stretch Marks: None yet...which is amazing considering how fast my tummy is growing!

Sleep: I've been sleeping pretty well.  I get up 1-2 times in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom....but so far I can fall right back asleep after!

Best Moment Last Week: Starting my 2nd trimester!!!

Movement: Nothing definite yet.  I felt a few "bubbles" last week...but nothing this week.  I absolutely can't wait to be able to feel them!!  I am really hoping that both placentas are posterior so I will be able to feel the kicks from the outside early!

Food Cravings: Root beer.

What I Miss: Sushi.  Weird. I know.

What am I looking forward to:  Feeling the first kicks!

Milestones: This past weekend we went to a consignment store and found a few great nursery items!!

How is Daddy? Excited.  He picked out most of the things at the store for the nursery and even found us a book on twins.  Last night we sat on the couch and he rubbed by belly for a while. It was so sweet and felt so good on the stretching muscles!

Happy 2nd Trimester!

Finally....I am out of the dreaded first trimester!  I never thought I'd make it here! On April fools day of all days!

Let's recap the first trimester:

My Appearance

  • Total weight gain=7 lbs
  • Look like I'm rocking a beer gut...not quite the round belly I am hoping for.
  • Bra size went from a D to an E.  I can officially call it an "Over the shoulder boulder holder" and mean it
  • I haven't colored my hair since I found out I was pregnant...so I am starting to look a little more like a wrecked crack whore day by day. Thank god I've got all my teeth.
  • Picture from the start to the end of the first tri:
